Getting Back To Basics – Skills Clinic is a Success
Ni River Trail, Salamander Loop, Saturday, 29 June 2013, 0800; 10 students took part in a four hour skills clinic created to help riders new to mountain biking.
The course began with a one hour brief on the basics; such as bike terminology, safety, nutrition, and several other helpful basics. Following this brief, we worked on:
1. 10 x 10 box drill
2. Slalom cone course drill
3. Emergency braking drill
4. Cone to cone race drill – slowest to cross the finish line wins!
5. Curb and obstacle drill
6. Controlled downhill drill
7. Seated uphill climb drill
8. Obstacle drill
After the drills were complete, the ten students took on the beautiful Salamander Loop trail, where we practiced the skills learned over the previous two hours.
Following the trail ride, we wrapped up the course by doing some basic maintenance where we changed a flat tire. This was a real time flat, but came at a good time as we demonstrated the proper way to change a tire.
The course was great and everyone left we something that will help them out on the trails.
